Mylin’s Angry Pancreas

Poor My had another sleepless night. Like I said at the end of my post last night the oxygen issue became much worse as the night went on. A doctor just came in went over the x-ray bit by bit with me as it was on screen. They are so good about that here. Showing you and simultaneously explaining. He said that for better or worse the x-rays are actually much worse than Mylin is presenting or looks. The doctors said they were able to get a lot of the extra fluid out of Mylin’s body through urine with the medication given. Today will be a balancing act of not taking too much fluid, but preparing for night time. They also want to try to ween back off the oxygen.

I am so impressed by how quickly and perfectly orchestrated the team was. I mean those vests were going on and the x-ray machine and x-ray technician were in the room before I ever realized what was happening. After all of that even when things weren’t going off, My’s sweet nurse stayed really close to the bedside most of the night ensuring all was ok. The alarms did continue going on sporadically throughout the night. I’d sometimes doze off and wake up to several people (more nurses, respiratory care, and doctors) in the room. My is in a lot of pain and is pretty nauseous this morning. The higher flow oxygen, even with the humidified air, has caused several nose bleeds (which My is prone to). As you can imagine, after two sleepless nights and not much rest during the day yesterday, My is pretty out out it. They are also a little agitated today, but I know that can come with not just the lack of sleep, but some of the meds too. They already apologized to me once for being grumpy at me. I laughed and was like it’s not a big deal kid.

Although it was a rough night, our TPIAT team ensured us this is a totally normal part of recovery. Since the abdomen is open for so long during surgery, they have to add lots of fluids. Then when the body starts to catch up, there becomes too much. Then they have to get some of that fluid off. I had forgot they had talked to us about this exact scenario before. Of course, being so tired and also emotionally exhausted doesn’t help the brain run at 100.

Really thankful the other man in my life (my bestie for like over 2/3 of my life, Zack) was able to text with me through the hard parts last night. It’s an extra bonus that he has so much medical knowledge and can tell me at what points I actually need to worry. 💜💜
