Mylin’s Angry Pancreas

Last night was hard for My (and all of us that have had any surgeries know how that 2nd and 3rd day hit hard, let alone a surgery like this one). Daniel stayed through the night, insistent that I try to get some rest. He said My barely slept at all, complaining of pain and weird feelings like feeling they were on the ceiling. Also, their oxygen has dropped, likely from taking more shallow breaths to avoid pain from the abdomen. Which is why they started My on oxygen. My also got some new meds, so there is more lines added to the neck port.

My did get their nose tube out shortly after I took this pic. This means they are on their way to getting to have ice chips! They can’t wait. (Actually just got the news! Those ice chips are on the way!!!)

The pain has been difficult since I have gotten here too. They said they feel super puffy and like they are just really heavy in the bed. I massaged their hands (their fingers are a little chubby) and it helped just a little. Besides the effects of surgery, the fact that My isn’t releasing urine is causing them to have some swelling. The urine situation is also causing some wonky labs, so the team is working on that. My was also complaining about feeling like they were stuck to the ceiling, unable to see, and like they were going to pass out. At that point the team had us leave. They cleaned and replaced the catheter. They had My rotate side to side and cleaned up a bit more. My felt better after that. My has been pushing that pain button non stop and is just really uncomfortable, but at least they came “off the ceiling.” We’re keeping the shades drawn, because My is super light sensitive today. We’re also ensuring all the lovies and stuffies are snuggling in just the right spots.

The nurse has been having to work on oxygen. She has to keep kinda lightly shaking My and have them take some really deep breaths with the oxygen. It’s been dropping low pretty frequently.

The good news is, blood pressure is better today. It’s corrected with meds, but we’ll take what we can get! The nurse said more blood pressure meds are coming shortly.

PT will stop by in about an hour. They said this time we’ll have more of the blood pressure meds on board. Then the pain team also talked to My about PT later. The dr wants to plan to have My get morphine 10 minutes before they do PT to avoid what happened yesterday. Daniel said the dr was telling My he had heart surgery 2 years ago (he even showed My the scar) and said that made him even more impressed with My getting out of bed yesterday! He told My his surgery was only 4 hours and there was no way anyone was getting him out of bed the next day. I just know that made My feel like a freak’n champ. Which of course they are. 🩷
